The Washington Street Gallery at the Eastport Arts Center (EAC) is calling on area
visual artists to submit an original work for a community show that will be held for the
month of July. The theme is Downeast Summer.
“We hope artists will see this open call and start thinking about summers Downeast that will result in an artwork to place in the show. Perhaps it will be the relief of warmth after the long winter, or the sounds of birds, the colors and scents of flowers, the drifting fog or the glow of sunsets,” says EAC Curating Committee Chair Melinda Jaques. She adds that spiritual and emotional responses are welcome, whether that takes the form of abstract, impressionistic or realistic artworks.
Artists may use any medium for their work, but the artwork must be wired and ready to hang on a wall. Artworks that are not ready to hang will not be accepted, and each artist should submit only one artwork. Artworks will be accepted on Monday, June 29, from 3-5 p.m. A reception will be held on Sunday, July 5, from 3-5 p.m., and artists will be expected to pick up their works on Saturday, July 25, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Artists may choose to sell their artwork. If labeled for sale and sold, EAC will handle the sale with a 30% commission (artists receive 70%).
There is no pre-registration required and no fee to submit an artwork. Artists are asked to fill out this form for artwork they intend to drop off.
