In order to foster awareness and appreciation of the literary arts, the Literary Arts Program offers numerous workshops each year to involve and support participants in the creation of spoken and written works.

In past years, these workshop topics have included epistolary poetry that involves exchanging letter poems, ekphrastic poetry written in response to visual art, dialogue writing for fiction and nonfiction, and techniques for oral storytelling. More workshops are planned for the 2026 season and the schedule is currently being finalized.

Other presentations also celebrate the written and spoken word. This year, we hope to bring back Writers Read, in which area authors share their published works, as well as spoken-word open mics for published and unpublished writers. In addition, we hope to collaborate with 12 Willows Press to bring authors to Eastport. We previously brought 12 Willows poets and writers in to read from the press's 2025 anthology and we hope to recreate that event in 2026 with an evening of readings from its new anthology, Echoes in the Fog, celebrating the liminal spaces on Maine’s coast. In addition, we are currently in conversation with the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance to bring additional events to Downeast Maine.
