Shades for Sundays: A new crowdfunding campaign for EAC

Announcing a new crowdfunding campaign for the Eastport Arts Center: Shades for Sundays!

The Eastport Arts Center is in need of multiple room-darkening blinds to cover its eight large (34"w x 93.5"h) windows in the downstairs multipurpose room. This area is the setting for the EAC's popular Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center series, a free, weekly series dedicated to education around the arts, history, and the environment.

Currently, the room is far too bright to allow for easy viewing of the screen during projected presentations. The Sunday Afternoon series is particularly popular with those who are 55 and older, so improving visibility would go a long way toward audience enjoyment (along with improving the experience for the presenter).

Apart from improving visibility during presentations, the blinds will serve to improve the heating and cooling efficiency of the downstairs space, further lending to the art center's sustainable operations.

Along with the shades, we are looking for funds to acquire a new laser projector to enable better visibility and quieter operation during these educational presentations.

How You Can Help

One way or another, a donation (of any size) to this campaign will support EAC in obtaining new blinds. EAC has identified a supplier (Color Concepts in Bangor, Maine) for blinds that will serve the purpose nicely (see below photo), and obtained a quote for the blinds and the installation work. Once funds are raised, we will schedule a time for the delivery and the installation of the blinds, which will ideally be before the winter season of the Sunday Afternoon series resumes (in January of 2027).

With this funding, the EAC will be an even brighter light for the community throughout the winter months with its improved space for our free weekly presentations.

Lighter, Quicker, Cheaper challenge

To help further improve our downstairs space, we are participating in Patronicity's Lighter, Quicker, Cheaper Challenge. To that end, if Shades for Sundays is the project with the highest number of unique donors in this cycle, we will receive a matching grant up to $5,000, doubling your donation. Giving at any level counts (even $1 donation will go toward the goal of winning the additional funds).
