EAC’s Summer Arts Camp: Let's Go Camping! Register Now

Updated: Jun 28, 2023

EAC is pleased to present this year’s Summer Arts Camp: “Let’s Go Camping”, for children age 6 to 13, 9 am-noon, July 10-14. Participants will be able to enjoy some of the best parts of going camping from the comfort of the Arts Center. Attendees are invited to take a break from busy life and enjoy friends old and new while making memories and creative projects inspired by summer campouts. Instructors are Sara Myrick, art; and Kayla Heckart, theater games. Myrick’s craft instruction will focus on using natural materials and found objects and creatively repurposing items found at home. Projects will include designing model camp sites, leaf rubbings, nature weavings, story stones, camp lanterns, flashlight projectors, solar ovens, fairy houses, and more! Kayla plans to incorporate movement games as well as quick thinking games as a refreshing break between the art and craft projects. All materials and snacks will be provided. Space is limited, and registration is required: please email info@eastportartscenter.org. Camp fees are being handled differently this year: a deposit of $15/day or $60 for the week will be refunded at the end of the session, making this a free offering. Support for Summer Arts Camp has been provided by the Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation. Sara Myrick teaches art full-time for grades K-12 in the Eastport schools, and is owner of Coastal Whims, a home-based art business celebrating her love of nature and handcrafting. In her artistic practice, Myrick is a chameleon, always trying something new, and her workshops and projects have ranged from upcycling—Chihuly-style plastic ornaments and altered books— to print-making, whether on fabric or paper—to jewelry-making, using a wide array of found and handmade objects. In addition to teaching in the schools, she leads many workshops at both EAC and Eastport’s Peavey Library. Kayla Heckart is a Downeast transplant from the Midwest. With a musical theater performance degree from Columbia College Chicago, Kayla brings their love of stage and music to the Downeast area. Most recently Kayla has performed with Quoddy Voices and directed The Glass Menagerie last fall for Stage East.
