About the event

EAC will offer a workshop, Gel-printed Postcards with Jen Maffett, on Sunday, June 23, from 10 am-noon. Participants will learn three fun and accessible gelatin print techniques and use them to make their own set of postcards.

The session is designed for students ages 12 and up. Children 10 or 11 years old are welcome to attend with an adult helper. All materials are included. Workshop fee is $20 per student (or for younger students, per student/helper team). A sliding fee scale (pay what you can) is available by request. Space is limited and registration is required; please email to reserve a place or purchase your registration ticket below.

For an additional $25, students will receive their own kit of brayer and gelatin plate to take home and continue working with this medium. With care, the gelatin plate has an indefinite shelf life. Brayer and plate purchase may be arranged prior to the class, or immediately following the session.

Eastport Gallery artist Jen Maffett loves to work in mediums that involve words and pictures, so making art postcards to use for writing is right up her alley. Maffett works in a variety of mediums but prefers those that offer some happenstance in the process. Primarily she uses ink and colored pencils to create colorful imagery that reflects her love of the land and sea. Other creative endeavors include fabric design, stitchery and book making.

This session has been supported by the Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
