Tapestry 101: Foundations and beyond with Debra Thomas

Join fiber arts instructor Debra Thomas for this introduction to tapestry weaving. Debra will provide participants with a beginning loom and a starting project, along with giving hands-on, one-on-one instruction to complete it. She will discuss the vocabulary behind tapestry weaving, basic techniques, and a few advanced techniques for those ready for them.

Students who previously took Debra's Intro to Tapestry class will receive a discount for this class; they are reminded to bring their looms. Projects can be finished in this class with additional techniques taught.

All supplies provided; bring a notebook and pen for notes and small scissors if available (if not, extras are on hand).

Minimum three students, maximum six.

About the Instructor

Thomas has been drawing since she could hold a pencil. She learned to weave in 1974, and it has become her passion. In 2016, after moving to Maine, she combined her love of drawing and her passion for weaving into an obsession for weaving tapestries. She has taken classes with well-known tapestry weavers, studied technique, woven tapestries large and small, and meets monthly with a tapestry feedback group. She looks forward to sharing her love of tapestry and weaving in general with others.
