StorySlam

The final event of this storytelling season is a StorySlam with true tales told by local storytellers. Participants will have five minutes to woo the audience and the judges – this is competitive. Cash prizes will be awarded at the end of the evening to the top three storytellers.

There are very few rules, and here they are:

1) Your story should be no more than five minutes in length. You will be aware of the amount of time that’s elapsed. If needed, you will have an extra minute to wrap up your story, but you will lose points. If your story goes over six minutes it will be disqualified, and you will be asked to leave the stage. Practice telling your story to check its length.

2) Your story must be told from memory – it cannot be read, and no notes are allowed.

3) Your story should not be political.

4) Your story should not contain content inappropriate for a young audience. This event is open to everyone. Please keep that in mind.

5) The story must be true and it must involve something you, not someone else, experienced.

First prize is $150, second prize is $100, and third prize is $50.
