About the event
Award-winning Casting Director and Producer Laura Stanczyk will offer ‘Scene Study for Beginning Actors,’ for students age 18 and up, Tuesdays, February 4-March 25, from 6-8:30 pm. This 8-week course will offer an opportunity for beginning and established actors to develop skills specifically in relation to written material (plays, films, episodics). “This is NOT improvisation, relaxation or a vocal production class,” notes Stanczyk. “This is scene study.”
Participants will be assigned scene partners and material, and will learn how to deconstruct a scene, how to find the throughline, how to attach their own experience to the experience of the character, and how to identify and overcome obstacles. They are expected to attend every class, to rehearse with their scene partner on their own time and to do the work.
Preparation for this class should include relaxation technique (yoga, pilates, meditation), an open mind and heart and a willingness to self examine.
Course fee is $225 per person, and space is very limited. Signup may be done below, or by email to workshops@eastportartscenter.org. Payment is appreciated in advance, below; or may be turned in (check or cash) at the first class. If interested in taking the course but unable to pay the full course fee, please email workshops@eastportartscenter.org to inquire.
In the event that the class fills to capacity, we are keeping a waiting list and a contact list for additional opportunities of this nature. Please email workshops@eastportartscenter.org to add your name.
