About the event

Eastport Arts Center’s annual winter Sunday series continues weekly through April. As a reminder, programs are currently being offered at the Eastport Port Authority building, while work is underway on restoring EAC’s floors.

First in February will be Sánchez & Sánchez, a guitar and bass instrumental jazz duo, on Sunday, February 2 at 3 pm. The father and son team, Robert Sánchez and Ellis Zipperer-Sánchez, will present an array of tunes from the Great American Songbook, including some straight ahead jazz, and standards ranging from ballads to uptempo tunes, plus several in the bossa style. The duo will also feature singer Lauren Koss on a few numbers. A question-and-answer session will follow the music.

Ellis, a sophomore at Eastport’s Shead High School, made his guitar debut at age 6 in an EAC Young Person’s Concert. Even before this show, he’d already performed at EAC—on drums with his family’s band. From his start on guitar at age 5, Ellis has reached great success, receiving awards and accolades at jazz competitions and camps. He has been accepted to a prestigious performing arts high school for the 2025-26 school year at Michigan’s Interlochen, and he and his family have begun fundraising to allow him to pursue this study.

Robert has appeared at the EAC with jazz students, in the PBSO Music for Children production of Peter and the Wolf and in the Moose Island Follies. He teaches PreK-12 music in the Eastport schools and manages radio station WSHD-LP 93.3 FM. In addition to performing with Ellis, can be seen in duo format with John Squibb and with bands Easternmost Jazz Quartet and the Minor Characters.

Sunday series programs are offered by donation, with no one turned away for lack of funds. Proceeds will be shared between the presenters and the EAC, committed to sustaining programs like these. A full series schedule may be found here.
