Researching History: Putting the Past First

The Maine State Archives offers a wealth of information for people researching their families, geographical locations, and historic details. 

State Archivist Christian Cotz will discuss how to access that information in a special presentation as part of the Eastport Arts  Center’s Sunday Series. Participants will be guided through various searches to help them understand how information is archived and can be retrieved. 

The archives, physically located in Augusta,  have reproduced much of their data online where it’s easily retrievable. And there’s a lot of it—if the official state documents alone were positioned end-to-end, they would stretch about eight miles!
