Step into two realities at once in “Mental: A Musical” a raucous new musical comedy presented by Machias Arts Council Theatre where the padded walls echo with power ballads, honkytonk jams, and a touch of madness.
Meet Heath, a charismatic patient with Reduplicative Paramnesia who’s convinced that his psychiatric hospital is also a theater stage. His reality? A spotlight. His fellow patients? The cast of his magnum opus. Each one carries a music-related delusion - from a diva with Stendhal Syndrome and a touch of narcissistic personality disorder who loses all inhibitions when she hears herself sing, to the piano player with Fergoli Syndrome who thinks anyone who can’t sing is his arch nemesis.
