Eastport Arts Center, 36 Washington St, Eastport, ME 04631, USA

About the event

In this four-part workshop with experienced artist and arts instructor Anne Black, participants will begin with the basics of gel printing before moving onto the mastery of different associated techniques throughout the class.

The classes will be tailored to the student group and will include:

  • Exploring color and the properties of different paints on the gel plate

  • Creating pattern and texture using a wealth of simple tools and methods

  • Approaches to design, building layers and complexity

  • Methods of transferring drawings to the gel plate

  • Painterly expressionism

  • Working in series

  • Caring for gel plate and brayer

  • and more!

For those without a gel plate or brayer, the instructor will have some available to use during classes with paints and paper supplied for the class at no additional cost, as well as for purchase at the first class to take home. We will start with smaller 3x5" and 5x7" plates and possibly end with prints on an 8x10" plate.

In addition to frameable prints, attendees will also have a chance to create greeting cards and book covers from their many images. “You can be a beginner and come up with some really cool things," says Black.
