About the event
The third of five Felt Fest workshops, this session delves into more advanced wet felting techniqes, as students create 'the splash' form, which includes a lesson on felted sphere-making. The session may be paired with the afternoon session, in sculptural dry felting—'Needle Felted Critters'—for a discount.
Felting is a meditative and fascinating tactile process, and instructor Audra Christie has enjoyed exploring the huge range of applications of the medium. Her passion for fiber art has led her to felting hats and art objects, spinning yarn, and knitting and crocheting using wool from her own sheep. Her artwork explores ethics, craftsmanship, local culture, conviviality, and the essence of rural communities.
The morning session is for ages 16 & up; ambitious workers 12 & up may email to inquire about attending. Fee is $20 plus a $10 materials fee. Students may attend both July 10 sessions (Sculptural Wet Felting and Needle Felted Critters) for $30 plus a $10 materials fee. A sliding fee scale (pay what you can) is available by request. Space is limited; reserve below or by email to workshops@eastportartscenter.org.
Felt Fest has been supported by the Belvedere Traditional Handcrafts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation.
