About the event
Join fabric arts instructor Nia Aretakis as she brings in a bevy of fabrics for participants to unfold and unfurl for addition to clothing pieces, tote bags, canvases, or whatever else you'd like to decorate. Past participants have made beautiful landscapes and more (see below for photos by Lauren Koss and John Leavitt). Bring in your own fabrics for inclusion if desired. Refresh your clothing into something you're excited to wear again!
There is no sewing required for this workshop as Nia will be providing adhesives (along with instruction as needed).
All ages. Those under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. No one turned away due to lack of funds.
What should I bring?
Raid your closet to find some old items with holes or stains, or just some plain clothes you've been wanting to decorate. Some ideas for clothing to bring would be loose cotton tee shirts, denim shorts or jeans, cotton dress shirts, or cotton/denim jackets (Note: tight stretchy clothing is not ideal for this workshop; materials like cotton and denim are best.)
Using patchwork, hand-sewing, fabric collage, and more, Nia will supply everything needed to up-cycle your pieces, so all you need is your clothes and some creativity!
