About the event
EAC’s Washington Street Gallery will feature S.A. Weir: A Retrospective, July 2-30, featuring 40 years of artwork in four mediums: watercolor, pastel, oil and acrylic. Special gallery hours will be offered on Saturdays, July 13, 20 and 27. In addition, the gallery is open during EAC events or by chance or appointment with wsg@eastportartscenter.org.
A native of Dennysville, Weir lived on her grandparent’s farm until her parents moved to coastal Beverly, MA, where she currently resides. She spends her summers in Perry.
It wasn’t until after college, raising a family, and a business career that Weir was able to act on her lifelong interest in art. Diving into watercolor study swiftly found her receiving ribbons for her paintings at the Artist’s Guild in Beverly. While attending classes at Montserrat College of Art, she was introduced to printmaking, collage, watercolor and, a particular favorite, pastel. Most recently, she began working in oils last year, and was quickly successful, generating 10 works that are part of her show.
Weir’s love of nature is shown in seascapes, landscapes, flora and fauna, many inspired by her Maine roots. Downeast landscapes, the New England coast, windmills in Tralee, Ireland, and the architecture of Amalfi, Italy are all on view in the show.
Washington Street Gallery is on the first floor of Eastport Arts Center, at 36 Washington Street, Eastport, and is handicapped-accessible.
