Eastport Arts Center is pleased to present a concert with Castlebay on Friday, July 26 at 7 pm, featuring tunes from New England and the Celtic lands, including shanties, fiddle tunes, and ballads. The duo features poignant ballads sung in Julia Lane's ethereal soprano and Fred Gosbee's rich baritone, interspersed with joyous dance tunes on Celtic harp, guitar, fiddle and tin whistle in a musical journey through time and across the Atlantic.
Playing at festivals and arts centers in the eastern U.S. as well as Ireland, England and Scotland, Castlebay also maintains a commitment to cultural education, exploring Celtic lore, traditions, and music through programs for schools, museums, libraries and Elderhostels. Their book, “Bygone Ballads of Maine: Volume One, Songs of Ships and Sailors,” is acclaimed for its high level of attention to musical detail, its precise writing, and its excellent contextual information. Castlebay has released 35 recordings including both original and traditional songs, Christmas harp recordings, and a six-part instrumental series.
Concert tickets are $20, and attendees 17 and under will be admitted free of charge. If money is an obstacle, ticket fee will be waived. Tickets are available below or at the door.
