About the event

In recognition of Banned Book week, October 5-11, Eastport Arts Center is partnering with Peavey Memorial Library, A Boatload of Books, and The Quoddy Tides to hold several events designed to encourage conversation around the need of and pursuit of intellectual freedom.

We invite you to join us at EAC on Saturday, October 4 at 7 pm when we will host Cathleen Miller, the current chair for the Maine Library Association's Intellectual Freedom Committee, for a conversation about the state of book challenges in Maine. Cathleen works at the University of New England in Biddeford as the Education and Outreach Archivist and is part of the American Library Association's Law for Librarians cohort that offers trainings around the state for libraries and other organizations. She also serves on the steering committee for the New England Intellectual Freedom Helpline.

As part of Banned Book week, we encourage you to select one of the 20 books in this list curated by A Boatload of Books for reading at your convenience.
