About the event
The Eastport Arts Center will welcome Prince Edward Island-based musicians Cynthia MacLeod and Gordon Belsher back to Eastport for a Celtic Ceilidh on Wednesday, September 18 at 7 pm. The pair make their return due to clamorous popular demand from the Eastport community, who loved their show at EAC last May. This time 'round, rather than a show in the upstairs theater, the pair will be presented in a more intimate—and danceable!—venue, the Center's first floor gallery space. (Plenty of comfortable seating will be available as well). On Prince Edward Island, "ceilidh" means "kitchen dance"—an informal party.Â
"Buckle up and hang on," recommends Eastporter and music-lover Bill Johnson, who has seen Cynthia twice at PEI's Small Halls Festival, and Gordon 3 or 4 times with fiddler Richard Wood in Eastport, Lubec and PEI.  "It's fun to watch artists have so  much fun—joyful, high energy!"
Â
"This is guaranteed to be a toe-tapping good time," enthuses Paula Horvath, another Eastport music fan and EAC Board member. "Last year was fantastic and I expect these two musicians to deliver an authentic Celtic Ceilidh to Eastport."
MacLeod is an ambassador of traditional music, with a distinct style of fiddling that embraces both her local roots and her ancestral connection to the Scottish highlands. Since the beginning of her career as a teen, she has spent more than two decades on stages on PEI, across Canada, and around the world.
Belsher has been entertaining audiences in Canada and around the world for more than 50 years, performing at concerts, ceilidhs, conventions, and pubs. As accompanist and featured vocalist with fiddlers Richard Wood and Cynthia MacLeod, Gordon has toured extensively across Canada, in the U.S., the U.K., Europe, Japan and Australia.
Tickets are available below or at the door prior to the show. Attendees 17 and under will be admitted free of charge. Please note: online ticket sales will close at 5 pm on September 18; the EAC box office will open for ticket sales at 6:30 pm.
Eastport Arts Center is at 36 Washington Street, Eastport, and is handicapped-accessible.
