Updated: Jun 13, 2023

Stage East’s summer production is close at hand, opening on Friday June 16th. To whet your appetite, enjoy these ten fun facts about the show and watch this space for more behind the scenes content in the coming weeks!

  1. The play was originally directed by the Tony award winning actor, Christian Borle whose Broadway credits include Legally Blonde: The Musical and Peter and the Star Catcher

  2. The playwright, James Hindman, is also an actor and has appeared on television (The Sopranos) as well as on Broadway (Mary Poppins).

  3. Popcorn Falls enjoys many productions across the U.S. and has been performed by several other theater companies in Maine including Good Theater in Portland as well as Winterport Open Stage in Winterport.

  4. Morgan Swan, who plays Joe and others in the show, worked with the much-love Children’s Stage Adventures during which time she traveled the Northeast and helped elementary schools—some with more than a hundred students—put on full productions in just one week.

  5. Alba “Hoty” Briggs III, who plays Mr. Trundle and others in the show, spends part of his year in Morocco working as an actor in the film industry there. He’s pleased to have recently appeared in his first commercial.

  6. This will be Mark Macey’s final show as the artistic director of Stage East. This fall Mark will attend graduate school for theatre directing at the University of London, Birkbeck College.

  7. Morgan, Hoty, and Mark have all worked together at Stage East prior to this production. Morgan (Mina) and Mark (Dracula) played opposite one another in Dracula: The Musical? this past fall. Hoty, who played Tom in The Glass Menagerie this past winter, got to know Mark first as the producer of that project.

  8. This is Stage East's first show on the Eastport Art Center’s main stage in over nine months!

  9. To get into the highly physical world of the play, the cast and creative team took their cue from famed clown Bill Irwin. Their first rehearsal was a viewing of his work The Regard of Flight.
