Artist's Reception with Kenny Harris Slated for May 27 at Washington Street Gallery

Envisivivarium, an exhibition by Kenny Harris, is on view at Eastport Arts Center’s Washington Street Gallery through June 25. All are welcome to attend a reception with the artist on Saturday, May 27, 2-4 pm. Harris’ works examine the cultural and psychological connectivity of mythology through whimsical, graphic, and figurative forms. An amalgamation of the words “envision” and “vivarium” (a collection of living beings for the purpose of observation), Envisivivarium explores the universality of belief systems around the world through stark black and white figural drawings made into paper sculptures. Amassed together on shelves in sometimes overwhelming numbers, the sculptures address the diversity and ingenuity of the human mind.

Harris received a BFA from SUNY Brockport and an MFA from Moore College of Art and Design, where his thesis focused on mythology and its roles in contemporary art and contemporary media. He currently works as an Associate Lecturer at Alfred State College in Alfred, New York. Harris has shown in multiple group and solo exhibits through the United States. His group shows include Beasties at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts in Sebastopol, California; Wham-O at Artist’s Milepost in Portland, Oregon; and, most recently, Chasing the Tale at the Albany International Airport. He has exhibited solo shows in Garrison, New York; Syracuse, New York; Manchester, New Hampshire; and Rochester, New York. Read more about Harris here.
