CANCELED—Danny Holt: 'Behind-the-Scenes of a Concert Program'

The Sunday Afternoons at the Arts Center series continues weekly through April. On February 16 at 3 pm, EAC will welcome back Danny Holt for Music & Conversation: Behind-the-scenes of a concert program. A celebrated classical pianist, Holt will share excerpts from an upcoming solo program and stories of composers from the 19th century to the present, and relate how they inspire one another. His program traces the theme of "Musical Quotations, Tributes, and Transformations,” looking at ways composers reinterpret the works of their peers and predecessors. Attendees will learn the fun and fascinating musical cross-pollinations that gave birth to this program, which continues Holt's favorite practice of shining a spotlight on lesser-known music from the classical tradition. More an informal show-and-tell/question-and-answer session than a formal concert, Holt's presentation will encourage audience members to ask questions and contribute to the conversation.

Called “phenomenal” by the late music critic Alan Rich, and hailed as one of the “local heroes” of the Los Angeles music scene (LAcitybeat.com), pianist Danny Holt has performed around the globe in concert halls (Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Hollywood Bowl), clubs (Joe’s Pub, The Blue Whale, Copenhagen Jazzhouse) art galleries (MASS MoCA, Hammer Museum), churches, living rooms, and wherever else he can find a piano and someone to listen. Sunday series programs are offered by donation, with no one turned away for lack of funds. Proceeds will be shared between the presenters and the EAC, committed to sustaining programs like these. The series will run through April.
